Description
Eucalypt leaves, fruit and twigs were laid on cotton calico, then boiled with (environmentally friendly) rust and vinegar, to dye the fabric for this bag. The bag is smaller than a ‘green’ shopping bag, but great for carrying a present and other goodies, a packed lunch for 2 and a tablet, or craft supplies.
The front panel
features a branchlet, with hand sewing to highlight the leaves and stems. The back and sides feature multiple twigs, sprigs and gum nuts, with some highlighted by free-motion sewing with a machine. The thread is multicoloured, and cotton, and is also used to decorate the straps. The lining is cream and textured, and I think it is linen (but it may be cotton). The outsides are attached to a thin synthetic wadding for strength and protection of the contents.
The bag can be washed in cold water and dried in the shade.
Measurements: 28 x 32 x 6.5 cm and the straps are 49 x 4 cm.
The price you pay, minus packing and shipping, will be donated to WIRES, the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service.
