Once upon a time, in a garden of soft ivory and sage-blue, a single rosebud began to bloom.
There's a particular kind of gift that gets remembered — the one still being held years from now, the one someone holds and says, smiling, "my grandmother/godmother gave this to me."
This piece was made with exactly that in mind.

I'd had this rosebud arrangement on my list to make for a while — the little medallion at the centre, the rosebud-and-leaf detail scattered through the rounds — and the 150th Ekka gave me as good a reason as any to finally sit down and make it happen. It came home with a First Prize ribbon in Crochet Open, made exactly the way everything from Legacy Laceworks is made: the same care, the same attention, the same hours at the hook.

There's only one of these. Worked from the centre outward in concentric rounds, it builds from a small crocheted rosebud medallion at its heart through bands of open lace and gentle shell-stitch scallops, every ring finished with tiny crocheted rosebuds and leaves. Soft ivory, banded through with dusty sage-blue — a palette chosen to still feel right in ten years, not just for this year's nursery.

Crocheted in Bendigo Woollen Mills Cotton 4 Ply, it's gentle against newborn skin and sturdy enough to hold its shape through years of use — wrapped around them on the cold nights, tucked over the pram on the walks, kept close on the days they need to feel safe and warm and utterly comforted.
